Gardening Update

May 10th, 2012

Due to the Public Holiday last Monday we had no gardening but we will make up for it at the end of the term.

This week the Wednesday groups were weeding, fixed up the pond, marked out the pumpkins and separated some spring flower bulbs which were given to us for next year by Angie from the sibling after-care group.

A big thank you to Angie; we appreciate any donations.

Gardening News

May 2nd, 2012

The children in the Gardening After-School activity, the Monday class, were weeding so we talked about weeds (shepherd’s purse, nettle, groundsel and a few others). They brought home mint, rosemary and also a yellow flower called ragwort and we planted some plants in hanging baskets.
The Wednesday group transferred some beans, peas and sunflowers, sowed tomatoes, leeks, broccoli, spring onions and green beans.
They brought home some carrot plants which need to be transplanted either in separate deep pots or outside in the garden in 2 to 3 weeks’ time and watered immediately.
Some children brought home a mystery herb (smells a bit like lemon) and were asked to ask around if anyone knows what it is.

A large number of our children love to play skipping in the yard at school and we want to further encourage this healthy exercise. Winter Festival of Light

December 9th, 2011

We are pleased to welcome families to take part in this event in our school grounds.  Many cultures celebrate a light-based festival in November and December. Our idea is that each small light contributes to overcoming the darkness. Children have made lanterns in school and we have a battery light inside for each child, which they will carry during the procession and choral performance.

Weather permitting, this event is scheduled for Wednesday 14th December, 18.30 – 19.30.

Winter Solstice Celebration

December 9th, 2011

This celebration of the shortest day of the year is being organised in The Complex, Smithfield, and outdoors there, on Wednesday 21st December 6.30-8.30 pm. There will be warming food and drinks, storytelling and music, seasonal gifts to buy. This is a free event for all ages and under 15s with an adult.

D7ET Christmas Bazaar

November 25th, 2011

This year’s D7ET Christmas Bazaar will be on Sunday, 11th December 2011, from 12.00 – 2.30 p.m. in the school.

There is something for every family to help with, in advance or on the day. All volunteers will be greatly appreciated. It’s a great way to get in the festive spirit and also do something for your school. This event is the school’s biggest fundraiser and social event.
